SJS Academic Team meets each Wednesday in the school library from 2:30 to 3:30 during the fall and winter. Matches are held during January, February and March, with home matches played in the Multipurpose Room on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. All students in 7th and 8th grade are eligible to try out for the team.
Subjects covered at matches include literature, grammar, history, geography, government, current events, math, science, religion and the cultural arts. We are looking for team members who are enthusiastic and willing to study to increase their knowledge base.

The Catholic Academic League of Lorain County (CAL) was founded in 2004. It is the only league which offers scholastic competition to junior high school students in Lorain County. The six members are St. Joseph Amherst, St. Jude Elyria, St. Mary Elyria, St. Peter Lorain, St. Joseph Avon Lake, and Holy Trinity Avon.
