Anyone with equipment or uniforms from any St Joseph Amherst CYO team…football, basketball or volleyball, from any previous seasons…..please return those to either the church office, school office or to Diane Syrowski at 750 Cleveland Ave (south side of street, top of St Joseph hill). CYO Fall sporting season sign-ups will be held Wednesday May 23rd in the school gym from 6-9 pm. The following sports will have registration: New this year – Flag Football for boys and girls in grades 1 through 3. New this year – Cheerleading for girls in grades 4-8. Tackle Football for boys in grades 4-8. Volleyball for girls in grades 4-8.
Fees will be as follows: Flag football $75; football for grades 4-8 $120; Volleyball $105 (new this year, you keep the uniforms); Cheerleading $75. Checks should be payable to St Joseph Athletic Association. Financial assistance is available through personal meeting with Fr. Martello – contact the parish office at 988-2848 to set up an appointment.
CYO is starting a Flag Football program for boys and girls in grades 1 through 3. Signups will be the end of May, and cost will range between $75 -$100. We are hoping to have games at the St Joseph football facility as well as other local stadiums. St. Joseph’s Athletic Association offers a Sports Program including:
- Football for boys grades 4-8 August through October
- Volleyball for girls Grades 4-8 August through October
- Basketball for girls and boys Grades 4-high school November through March
- Instructional Basketball for girls and boys Grades 1-3 January through March
- Track for boys and girls Grades 4-8 April and May
Registration is generally held one month prior to the start of the season. Costs, dates and locations of registration will appear in the church bulletin and school newsletter. You may also contact the Church Office at 988-2848.
The Athletic Association meets the first Wednesday of each month at 8 p.m. Parents are encouraged to join the association and volunteer for one of the standing committees. Board members are Fr. Lawrence Martello, Pastor; Matt Veneman-Athletic Director; Jeff Jenkins-Chairman/President; Diane Syrowski-Secretary; Doug George Treasurer.
Goals of the St. Joseph Athletic Association are:
- Promoting spiritual growth through mutual respect and respect for God
- Promoting academic excellence of all students by respecting school policies
- Requiring fair play and good sportsmanship among players, parents and coaches
- Providing financial assistance for the families of the parish based on need
- Managing the financial requirements needed to maintain a quality sports program
- Maintaining focus on developing each player through mandatory player participation rules.
All coaches are volunteers and meet diocesan requirements for background checks and fingerprinting. All CYO athletes must have current physicals. If the physical is one year old, it is still valid. For more information, please contact Matt Veneman at 988-8724
