Polar Bear and Valentines

What an exciting time to be in second grade! On Flex Day, we created polar bear dens out of marshmallows and toothpicks. The parameters for the den were:

  • four walls
  • a door
  • a roof
  • the polar bear needed to fit inside.

The students did an AWESOME job creating these dens and collaborated together so well. They really worked hard to include a little bit of everyone’s ideas and delegated jobs to each other. It was amazing to watch!

For Valentine’s Day, we made bags to put our Valentine cards in. I gave the students a paper bag and showed them an example of how to turn the paper bag into an owl. I also told the students to get creative-if they didn’t want to make an owl they didn’t have to. They could also add any details they wanted to the owls if they choose. The results were so amazingly creative. I am so glad I didn’t limit them to just the example! Their final products were so much better than I could have imagined.
