Welcome to 6th Grade homeroom and Upper Hall Science. As the 6th Grade homeroom teacher I will be overseeing Computer classes, morning activities and study halls. I am also the Science teacher for 4th through 8th grades..
SCIENCE
Tests are given at the end of each chapter with an emphasis on vocabulary. It is not unusual that there will be 15 to 20 new vocabulary words in each unit. These words are difficult as many are brand new to your child. Students are expected to write the vocabulary words and definitions in their notebooks. Occasionally time will be given in class to do this. Please ask to look at these words and encourage them to study them. Making flash cards is an excellent way to practice.
The day before each test is review day. Each student is given a review sheet containing the information that will be covered on the test. If no review sheet is given, then all information should be in their notebooks. We will go over the review sheet or notes together and I will answer and ask questions.
Homework is given from time to time when necessary. I expect it to be done neatly and turned in on time. Homework is graded and averaged into your child’s quarterly grade, as well as any other class work or labs. I will deduct points for work turned in late. Projects may be given throughout the year. Students will be given verbal and written instructions for any long term project. Class participation will also be factored into your child’s grade.
Expectations
I expect your child to be considerate and respectful of everyone and everything while in the Science Lab. I will handle any behavior problems on an individual basis using the principles of Love and Logic. If there is a problem your child and I cannot handle, I will contact you.
