At St. Joseph’s School, we are pleased to offer Spanish beginning in 4 year-old Preschool & continuing through 8th Grade. With an effort to succeed, students graduating from St. Joseph School have a solid foundation in foreign language and, in fact, most are accelerated in their Spanish vocabulary and comprehension skills.

Class time is used to introduce new concepts including vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and verb conjugation. Many times, we will work on a particular area during school and the students will be asked to complete a homework assignment throughout the week to keep their minds fresh on the concept learned.

Students are graded on completed homework assignments as well as participation in class and written assessments. I give written assessments after each unit to insure that the student has developed a clear understanding of the subject area.

Due to the fact that we meet weekly, missed homework assignments can significantly affect a child’s grade if not completed on time. Although I am not keen on the idea, I will accept late homework, but not for full credit. The grade isn’t the factor in learning Spanish — it’s in completing assignments in order to gain a concept of the language.
