Our 8th Graders have begun broadcasting their own NEWS CAST! Segments include weather, school events and news, monthly birthdays, and JOKES!

First Graders have been moving along to CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS. Movement has been so important for us in music class.

My favorite activity to teach RHYTHMS is MUSIC BASKETBALL! These AMAZING send graders drew up their very own rhythms and then had to dribble what they wrote!

Occasionally I invite our many talented kids to give us a

” Show and Tell”

of what they’ve been learning in their private lessons outside of school. It’s really so cool to see them thrive in music!

Keeping Busy with Rhythms in music class!

My SJS Music kids are loving all the interactive rhythm activities we’ve been doing! In all elementary classes, we’ve been reviewing rhythm reading and note names and values. We even got to use M & M’s on our staff! ( And then eat them, of course) Boomwhackers are a total favorite in all classes and getting our hands on the “BIG DRUM” has also been a LOUD, but very fun rhythm review for us!

We’re All in This Together!! Welcome 20-21 School Year!!!

I am SO excited to be back in the classroom and can’t wait to see you all!! Of course, you all know that school will look a little different now, but I have some new fun engaging things to make our music time great!

See you soon!!!

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!

Keep singing and dancing all summer long and

I hope to see you all in the fall!!

March Madness

Kindergarten LOVES Circle songs and games!!

“Hey there Friend” is one of our favorites!

The fifth grade and I learned some basic African dance steps using a Kennedy Center for the Arts tutorial online, after we completed our African Music Unit!!

Who knew we’d be SO good at this 🙂

7th Grade tried their music reading skills and BoomWhacker techniques while playing “AFRICA” BY TOTO.

Music MOVES us!

My amazing second graders are learning about listening maps and LOVED this version on “Hall of the Mountain King” by Greig where we got to show with movement how the music sounds!

First graders are singing ” Down by the Bay” learning about Call and Response.  I added a singing circle game where they had to make up the last line of the song and then get a turn around the circle!!!

Third graders are COMPOSERS!!! They learned about B-A-G on the music staff and then had to write and read and PLAY their own melody!

WOW THIRD GRADE!!

Hello 2020!

After months of preparing for our Christmas Concert, the kids once again were amazing and truly made us all feel the spirit of Christmas. The 7th and 8th graders performed their Sticks number to Lauren Daigle’s ” NOEL” and it was absolutely moving.

So now we’re back to music class….. this week the third graders are returning to review Note Names and basic rhythm composing.

Christmas is coming!
