This week in music * October 22-26

The Second graders accomplished TWO great things this week…  First they learned how to sing ” Ghost of John” as a two part ROUND.   Second they got to use the BOOMWHACKERS and play it too!!!

Spooky cool class!!

**Every Friday morning we have been singing a song at our schools morning meeting. We practice it in music class during the week and then sing it as a school at the meeting. This has been a really neat experience for them and for me. I have been working with the kids on how to really know what your singing about, what it means to them & how to use songs in a spiritual context. Some of the songs we have sung use themes like FORGIVENESS, TESTIFY TO LOVE, RESPECT & PEACE and this weeks song is called STAND IN THE LIGHT by Jordan Smith. I’m hoping that this one will teach the kids how to embrace what’s AWESOME about them and that even though we are all different we should all respect and love each other for who GOD made us to be!!

This Week In Music! October 8-18

The kindergarteners have explored PIANO & FORTE (soft and loud) by using their bodies and their scarves. We moved around to a classical piece by Anton Bruckner,  Symphony N.4 “Romantic”.

Fourth grade has been working hard on their composer flip books. This week we studied John Philip Sousa who is famous for writing ” STARS AND STRIPES FOREVER” & John Williams whom the kids LOVED because his works can be found in movies that the kids know like Jurassic Park and Star Wars!!!

This week in music * September 24- October 4

**My kindergartners explored the music room this week and we discovered all the instruments that they will use this year. Then we sang a silly song (which all kindergartners LOVE) call AIKEN DRUM. They took turns choosing our classroom instruments to design this little guy who they named MR. MUSIC!

**The 5th grade started a Unit on African music and instruments. They were introduced to a Nigerian Song called FUNGA ALAFIA which means “I welcome you”. Then we used our drums, shakers and xylophones to accompany the singers using poly rhythms to play. It was AWESOME!!!!

**Sixth Grade began the year learning about different Styles of music. They are working hard on some research to collaborate and create a MUSIC GENRE BOARD GAME!!!
